The Cost Of A Royal Wedding
The royal wedding date has been set for Prince William and Kate Middleton's nuptials on Friday, April 29 and the venue is confirmed to be Westminster Abbey.
And while the royal family has said it will foot the approximate $40 million bill for the wedding ceremony, the taxpayers will likely be paying for the security costs.
But, one thing is for certain, Wills' wedding will not be as lavish as that of his parents' formal state occasion back in 1981. While the exact figure is difficult to come by, Prince Charles and Princess Diana's ceremony – including 6,000 police officers and military manning the route to St. Paul’s Cathedral, the 27 wedding cakes, 10,000 hand-sewn pearls on Diana’s gown - is estimated to have cost about $47 million back in the day.
The Queen paid for Prince Charles and Camilla’s wedding ceremony out of her own pocket when they wed in 2005, and it seems Prince Charles will pay for his eldest son’s special day as well.
Meanwhile, in Sweden, the June 19 wedding between Crown Princess Victoria and her husband Daniel Westling this year, resulted in a monarchy debate when taxpayers had to pay for half of the $2.5 million price tag.
